**Position Information**:
- The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
**About the Role**
Aboriginal Education Officers provide assistance to teachers, Aboriginal students and their families to support improved learning, welfare and well-being outcomes for Aboriginal students.
**Essential Requirements**
- Working with Children Check Clearance
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to undertake First Aid training
- Administration of Medications - training to be provided based on student needs.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education and Training policies.
**Selection Criteria**:
- Understanding of the needs of Aboriginal students.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal communities and cultures.
- Ability to interact with Aboriginal students and parents.
- Experience working as part of a team.
- Knowledge of the local Aboriginal community.

Briar Road Public School is situated in the regional south network. The school has 294 students enrolled and comprises of 3 support unit classes, an ASPECT school satellite class and a preschool. The school is culturally diverse with 45% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and 22% of students having a language background other than English. The school is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school, and a place where staff, students and the community strive for excellence by creating a caring and safe learning community that encourages all to reach their potential.
Briar Road Public School has a broad range of teaching abilities on the staff. The school has a highly committed staff who deliver high quality teaching programs, supported by high expectation relationships. There is stability in the school executive and the school Aspiring Leadership Program continues to grow future leaders to support succession planning. Briar Road Public School has experienced a high turnover of staff due to a large volume of temporary staff and teachers on secondment opportunities or leave.
The school receives significant funding in the area of Low-Socio Economic and Aboriginal Education. The diversity of the local community is catered for through cultural classes/programs, leadership opportunities, academic rigor, sporting opportunities and other specific programs and is recognised as a lead school in Aboriginal Education in the Network. The school values community engagement across the whole school community and have a strong working partnership of the Campbelltown Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) and the Dharawal Regional AECG who provided consultation on the School Improvement Plan.
The staff are enthusiastic and dedicated professionals who cater for individual students through quality instruction underpinned by high expectations. Briar Road Public School has two Assistant Principals Curriculum Instruction teachers who deliver high impact professional learning that encompass evidence-based practices across the school.
