**About us**

**About the role**

This role provides high level administrative and project support to the Mayor and General Manager, as well as being responsible for the delivery of communication for the Council across all channels including face-to-face, digital, and print media.

This is a varied role that will see you utilise your exceptional written and verbal communication skills to help generate communication and media content to support all areas of the Council’s operations. You will also be a second Executive Officer assisting with generating agendas and minutes for Council Meetings and other Executive Administration functions.

As the key liaison person for District Committees, you will also be able to effectively represent Council at a range of meetings and be adept at presenting information in a concise and timely manner in meetings.

Key responsibilities of the role are:

- Develop and implement information and communication strategies, including developing content and distribution of communications through varied media channels, including Council’s website and Facebook page
- Provide high level administrative assistance directly to the Mayor, and prepare a range of communication including writing of speeches, recurring newspaper and editorial content, presentations, and correspondence in consultation with them
- Act as key Council liaison officer for a range of District Committees and special sub-committees, including attendance at regular meetings to present information and act as a liaison officer for the role, and preparation of agendas and minutes of those meetings
- Event coordination, including but not limited to Australia Day Awards, Annual Volunteer Recognition Program, and Citizenship Ceremonies
- Arrange media interviews and distribution of media releases
- Develop and arrange the production of newsletters, internal documents, pamphlets, brochures, fliers, articles etc. for communication and marketing activities
- Proactively update and maintain social media channels by responding to queries, sourcing media rich content, promotions and online events
- Act as backup/support for the Executive Assistant as required including preparation of agenda’s and minutes for Council meetings and workshops as required

**About you**

You will be a self-motivated professional who shows initiative, can multi-task, and has great time management skills. You can write to a deadline and have a super keen eye for detail.

Your ability to communicate effectively will be demonstrated in your cover letter for this role, no longer than 2 pages, addressing the following selection criteria:

- Experience in a high-level communications role, ideally within a public sector environment
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, that you have demonstrated in a similar working capacity dealing with external stakeholders
- Previous experience creating content that is engaging and informative, and the ability to adapt communication styles to the medium and audience you are writing for
- Have sound research skills and ability to consolidate complex and detailed information into accurate and concise information and advice
- High level interpersonal and conflict resolutions skills and the ability to maintain high professional standards in challenging situations
- Experience with high-level executive administration including production of agendas and minutes
- Demonstrated ability to research and compile detailed reports in an accurate and timely manner
- Ability to work autonomously under pressure and able to manage competing deadlines with limited direction
- Experience liaising with media would be highly regarded
