**About Us**
Beaufort and Skipton Health Service is a small rural health service that was formed on 1 October
1996 following the amalgamation of the Ripon Peace Memorial Hospital and the Skipton and District
Memorial Hospital.
The Health Service provides Urgent Care, Primary Care, Acute Inpatient, Residential Aged Care
(Nursing Home and Hostel level care), and a Transition Care Program (TCP). Community and Allied
health and home based services include District Nursing, Home Care packages, Respite, Health
Promotion, Diabetes Education and a large range of support programs.
The Medical Clinical operates at Skipton along with specialist services that are available. Beaufort
and Skipton Health Service serves nearly 6,000 people in Beaufort, Skipton and the surrounding
area.
**Purpose of Position**
The GP VMO at Beaufort and Skipton Health Service is a vital member of the health team providing
consulting room care as well as in-hospital care in a rural context.

**RESPONSIBILITITES AND KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS**
The position is based on two separate yet integrated roles. The primary role is that of GP VMO
providing general practice medicine as a member of the Skipton Medical Practice team, in addition
to providing medical services for hospital patients in the acute and urgent care centre, and aged care
residents. There is also a broader role of participation in the Beaufort and Skipton Health Service
multi-disciplinary team as a GP VMO.
*Clinical
- *
Initiating and being responsible for the clinical care of patients, particularly in the areas of
general practice, emergency medicine, general inpatient care and aged care residents.
- Arranging patient management in accordance with the best interests of the patient and with
advice of the appropriate specialist, regional and tertiary referral centres.
- Consult with other health service staff as required with respect to patient management and
related issues.
- Documenting relevant clinical information legibly, concisely and accurately.
- Ensuring that the appropriate post-discharge services are arranged in consultation with other
health care professionals.
- Arrange the ongoing medical management of aged care residents as needed.
- Participation in the On Call Roster and liaison with the medical clinics Practice Manager to
ensure appropriate on call rosters are available.
- Actively participate in quality activities and the Skipton Medical Practice accreditation process
in accordance with standard practice.

Providing and participating in appropriate educational activities for:

- Nursing Staff
- Allied Health staff
- Interested community groups
- Maintaining personal knowledge and skills, including relevant Continuing Medical Education
requirements.
- Contributing to the activities of professional associations.
- Preparedness to participate in research activities where appropriate and within the skill set of
the GP VMO.
- Preparedness to undertake additional training and qualifications for the benefit of the
practitioner and the health service.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
*Minimum
- *
Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent
- Registration with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Authority (AHPRA)
*Preferred
- *
Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners or the Australian College of
Rural and Remote Medicine.
