Legal Advisor Role

The role of Legal Advisor is a vital position within the legal advice and strategy team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice on legislation interpretation and development, including WHS Act, SRC Act, Seafarers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act, and other public sector related legislation.
  • Support corporate matters, including procurement, and provide legal support to governance and corporate operations.
  • Assist in supporting the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission and the Seacare Authority.

As a Legal Advisor, you will work under supervision to develop client-focused legal advice and support for staff. You will effectively manage risk and prioritize your workload in line with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, as well as internal procedures.

Requirements
  • Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory.
  • Current Practising Certificate or ability to obtain one within three months.

Please note that this position requires a character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check), employee health declaration, and a six-month probationary period for new engagements.
