Job Description

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in support of the L3Harris Communications Australia (L3HCA) Satellite Communications (SATCOM) under the Joint Project 2008 (JP2008) to the Commonwealth of Australia program.

You will directly report to the SATCOM Field Service Manager in Global Field Services (GFS) Australia to execute the JP2008 program deliverables.

This position requires you to conduct training, planning, engineering, configuration and support to operational and strategic networked systems in support of L3Harris and SATCOM.

You will assess and analyze the technical application of SATCOM products to meet customer needs on a continual basis and design or refine systems to satisfy the customer needs.

The successful candidate will provide direct support to the customer as the Field Service Representative (FSR) as part of a team or as an individual, manage team activities or programs and be expected to engage with other Engineers, Program Managers and Customers.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct installation, perform checks, operate, repair and maintain assigned equipment at customer installations.
  • Conduct mechanical and electronic preventive maintenance to predict problems and correct anomalies prior to catastrophic downtime.
  • Provide customer training on L3Harris SATCOM products at customer locations.
  • Provide training analysis and the development of training material in support to programs.
  • Develop, construct, implement or modify a test plan to isolate anomalies to keep the equipment downtime to a minimum.
  • Interpret and follow moderately complex sketches, schematics, drawings, charts, graphs, blueprints, block and wiring diagrams of assigned equipment.
  • Provide customer advice and planning on product capabilities and development opportunities.
  • Conduct authorized upgrades and perform temporary modifications to extend continued operation until maintenance can be performed.
  • Provide product support as required to L3Harris tactical communication products into SATCOM systems.
  • Participate in field installations, maintenance, upgrades, demonstrations and deployments.
  • Support Help Desk services to the customer to provide information, advice and maintenance as required.
  • Support maintenance and engineering to highlight system defects, and recommended hardware modifications for future improvements and new business opportunities.
  • Liaise with L3Harris Communications Australia JP2008 SATCOM programs to ensure sustainment and support to contracts.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Requires strong knowledge of job area. Typically viewed as having a specialty within discipline. May have broad knowledge of project management.
  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Advanced Diploma Technical Communications.
  • Open Cabling qualifications (preferred but not mandatory).
  • CCNA or ICND 1/2 qualified or trained (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE).
  • Field engineering experience with SATCOM equipment including installation, operation, fault finding and basic maintenance of static and mobile installations.
  • Experience in the operation and configuration of L3Harris MPM Modems, VIASAT EBEM Modems, iDirect or Comtech Modems.
  • Proven written and oral communication skills to provide reports and briefings to the customer.
Position Requirements
  • Ability to be granted access to Commonwealth of Australia Defence facilities.
  • This position may require the ability to work independently over extended periods at isolated locations.
  • Experience in the operation and configuration of VSAT Terminals and Modems including iDirect, VIASAT, L3Harris, Comtech.
  • Experience in the troubleshooting of both fixed and mobile VSAT Terminals and Radio Systems.
  • Experience in the use and operation of Test Equipment i.e. Spectrum Analyzers.
  • Must be physically able to move up to 20 kgs.
  • Have color vision to identify cables and wires.
Conditions
  • Requirement to conduct extensive travelling in support of Australian domestic and international tasks.
  • Due to the nature of this role, you must be eligible for a SECRET (NV1) level security clearance, with preference for candidates who currently hold this clearance.
  • Requirement to work reasonable overtime as required to support customer and business requirements.
  • Weekend or after-hours travel required in order to meet customer requirements.
  • Field Service Premiums provided for tasks excess of 31 days.
  • Hardship allowance in accordance with international policy.
