Senior Legal Advisor

This role requires a seasoned legal professional to provide expert advice on key business areas, particularly in distribution, partnerships and promotional deals. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in IP, commercial and media and entertainment law.

  • The Senior Legal Advisor will be responsible for advising on all distribution, partnership and promotional deals for the company's digital platform in Australia and New Zealand.
  • The individual will also supervise legal clearance and compliance work for marketing materials related to the digital platform.
  • Key responsibilities include drafting and negotiating key content licence agreements with broadcasters, digital service providers and other relevant parties.
  • The Senior Legal Advisor will advise and negotiate affiliate channel distribution deals for sports channels in Australia and New Zealand.
  • The role involves managing one direct report and supervising the day-to-day management and supervision of an attorney-level lawyer in the legal team.
  • Additionally, the Senior Legal Advisor will drive the formulation, drafting and implementation of legal policies, best practice guidelines and training for the business teams.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Significant experience (minimum 15+ years) as a qualified lawyer with both top-tier firm private practice experience and in-house legal department experience, focused on IP, commercial and media and entertainment law.
  • Admission to practice law in any State or Territory of Australia.
  • A current Australian State or Territory practicing certificate.
  • Proven experience advising or working in the Australian or comparable international media and entertainment industry.
