Senior Legal Counsel - Corporate and Commercial

Avant is seeking a senior legal counsel to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing corporate, commercial, and financial services legal advice to all of Avant's businesses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake the review of marketing material to ensure legal compliance
  • Provide corporate legal, commercial, and governance advice to all of Avant's businesses
  • Contract drafting, review, and negotiation
  • Insurance product advice and documentation
  • Statutory interpretation and advice on legislative reform impacting Avant's business
  • Litigation support for corporate litigation
  • Legal advice on complaints and potential disputes, including at AFCA
  • Staff legal training
  • Provide support to senior lawyers, the General Counsel & Office of the CEO
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualifications (LLB or equivalent)
  • Current NSW (or other Australian State) Legal Practitioner Practising Certificate – mandatory
  • Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience in a mid or top-tier firm
  • Private practice experience in providing commercial legal advice
  • Previous experience working in an insurance and/or Australian financial services environment (beneficial)
  • A pragmatic and commercial focus (including understanding of the commercial environment of the general insurance market)
  • Highly developed stakeholder and people management skills
  • High level of written and spoken language skills
  • Understanding of the commercial environment of the general insurance market
