The Associate Director – Architect, Planning, Design and Construction is a key member of the University's facilities team, responsible for assisting the University Architect in the planning and execution of capital projects and physical improvements. This role requires a strong understanding of architectural principles, sustainable design, and project management.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the University Architect in planning and executing capital projects and physical improvements
- Support the integration of sustainable design and respect for the environment in all projects
- Supervise other professional staff and manage assigned projects within the University system
- Coordinate all activities from programming and concept through occupant move-in
- Provide management of assigned projects within the University system
- Delegate to the Board of Governors and other campus entities when the University Architect is unavailable
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture required
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience as an Architect required
- LEED AP certification preferred
- Experience in operations, administration, personnel management, and supervision with institutions of higher education or similar large organizations required
- Experience in all aspects of the architectural profession, including programming ability, conceptualization, visual presentations, and preparation of construction documents
- Architectural registration required
- Missouri registration required or must be obtained within twelve months of the date of hire
- Accreditation through the United States Green Building Council in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) preferred
- Membership to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) preferred
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment
- Strong knowledge of building codes, industry standards, building accessibility requirements, contract language, and applicable statutes of the State of Missouri
- Strong knowledge of materials and methods of construction, including proper detailing of architectural building systems
- Knowledge of CAD and other graphic programs
- Ability to prepare sketches and renderings in various forms of media
- Ability to review plans and specifications and coordinate contract documents between responsible parties
- Management skills, particularly the ability to develop and manage budgets, analyze, organize, plan, and delegate
- Supervisory skills, particularly the ability to train, orientate, instruct, and evaluate others
- Computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheet, and similar applications
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to communicate with the University community, the public, and the media regarding planning, design, and construction issues
- Ability to gather and thoroughly analyze information to make well-founded recommendations to the University's senior administration
