About the role:

The Academic Liaison Specialist is a vital member of the ITC team, reporting directly to the ITC Casework Coordinator.

This position plays a pivotal role in facilitating young people's access and/or retention in education within the Intensive Therapeutic Transitional Care program (ITTC).

Using diverse strategies and educational options tailored to individuals' learning styles, the Academic Liaison Specialist collaborates with support services to ensure seamless guidance throughout each young person's educational journey.

Key objectives include assisting clients to achieve enhanced educational outcomes, documenting progress at regular intervals, and striving for success in their current educational setting or reintegration into an appropriate educational or vocational context.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing individualized education plans aligned with therapeutic goals
  • Establishing connections with education providers to facilitate the successful implementation of education programs
  • Fostering relationships with young people and significant others to promote educational participation and reduce absenteeism/exclusion
  • Cultivating awareness of social and emotional issues influencing educational attainment

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • A strong understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, coupled with an awareness of the challenges faced by Aboriginal children and young people
  • Relevant work experience and a minimum Diploma qualification or equivalent in Education Support or Special Needs
  • A commitment to MacKillop Family Services' Sanctuary Commitments and capacity to represent these values in the role
  • An understanding of teaching and learning strategies and ability to implement them as required
