Position Overview

The Senior Leader will oversee summer day camp / playground opportunities for children and teens, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. This role involves direct leadership and supervision of activities, as well as responsibility for the overall well-being of program participants, equipment, and facilities.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Plan and promote day camp / playground activities for children and teens, including games, arts and crafts, outdoor pursuits, outings, swimming, and special events.
  • Supervise and lead activities for children aged 5-18 years.
  • Oversee the supervision and evaluation of all program staff and volunteers involved in the program.
  • Monitor daily attendance, medical information forms, equipment and supply levels, and note any damages or deficiencies.
  • Collaborate with youth services staff to supervise and lead activities for teens up to 18 years old.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Experience working with children, preferably in day camp / playground settings.
  • Educational background in education, recreation, or child/youth care.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely and effectively supervise children.
  • Possess high energy level, enthusiasm, empathy, and genuine interest in working with children and teens.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Knowledge of behavior management.
  • Stamina, energy, and willingness to commit to quality proactive results.
  • Valid standard first aid certification including CPR-C.
  • Valid British Columbia Class 5 driver's license.
  • Demonstrated initiative without supervision or specific direction; completing tasks by removing barriers and locating necessary resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a variety of situations using diplomacy and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain productive relationships.
  • Demonstrated focus on internal and external client service continuously seeking ways to meet and exceed client expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and with Town employees, stakeholders, and partners to achieve optimal results.
  • Demonstrate valuing diversity.
