Job Summary

We're seeking an experienced Product Category Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our buying team, you'll be responsible for curating a selection of products that meet the highest standards and resonate with our customers. About the Role

This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced e-commerce environment and contribute to the growth of our business. As a Product Category Specialist, you'll play a pivotal role in identifying innovative products, evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and monitoring inventory levels. You'll also work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure timely product replenishment and seamless communication with suppliers.

Responsibilities
  • Product Sourcing: Research and identify top-notch products for specialty species, ensuring they meet our quality and pricing standards.
  • Supplier Evaluation: Assess potential suppliers based on their reliability, ethical production standards, and ability to deliver high-quality products on time.
  • Negotiation and Contract Management: Negotiate contracts and pricing terms with suppliers to secure the best value for our business.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and analyze sales trends to forecast demand accurately, ensuring timely product replenishment and avoiding stockouts.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize data insights to identify opportunities for expanding our product range or discontinuing underperforming items.
  • Partnership Development: Build and nurture strong partnerships with current suppliers to ensure seamless communication and supply chain reliability.
  • Market Trend Analysis: Stay up-to-date on market trends, consumer needs, and industry innovations in food, health, habitat, and enrichment accessories for specialty species.
  • Competitor Analysis: Conduct competitor analysis to understand market positioning, identify threats, and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Category Strategy Development: Develop category strategies that align with our business goals and drive sales growth for specialty species.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in a buying or merchandise role, preferably within the pet food or health sector.
  • Skills: Solid understanding of the e-commerce landscape, including online retail platforms, digital marketing strategies, and consumer behavior in the pet accessories market.
  • Analytical Skills: Proven experience in interpreting sales data, tracking performance metrics, and making data-driven decisions.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Effective communication and teamwork skills to work closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Customer-Centric Mindset: A customer-centric mindset with a desire to develop a deep understanding of pet owners' needs, preferences, and purchasing behaviors.

Location

This role is based in Sydney with a hybrid arrangement of 3 days per week in our pet-friendly offices. This is subject to change in line with business requirements.

Estimated Salary:

$85,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
