Community Fire Service Volunteer
As a volunteer auxiliary firefighter, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of Queensland communities. The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is a unique emergency service agency responsible for responding to fire and emergency incidents across the state.
The role of an auxiliary firefighter involves attending emergency incidents, promoting community safety and emergency preparedness, and developing competencies through regular drills and training courses. As part of the team, appointees must promote a positive approach, comply with legislative requirements, and communicate effectively with colleagues and the community.
To determine suitability for the role, applicants will be assessed on leadership competencies such as vision, results, accountability, and shared values. We expect all auxiliary firefighters to commit to ongoing skills acquisition and maintenance programs, including first aid/emergency care.
Key responsibilities of an auxiliary firefighter include responding to emergency incidents, promoting community safety, and developing competencies through training and drills. Additionally, they must maintain attendance standards for emergency incidents and training, operate specialist firefighting equipment, and contribute to the upkeep and hygiene of station facilities.
Volunteering with QFES requires eligibility to apply for or hold a current Blue Card, living or working within a reasonable distance of an auxiliary fire station, and possessing Australian Permanent Resident Status.
We support other volunteer groups providing emergency response services to Queenslanders. If you are passionate about making a difference in your community, this may be the ideal opportunity for you.
