Design Manager Job Description

Lycopodium is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our Minerals team in Brisbane. As a key stakeholder, you will lead and manage multi-discipline engineering and design activities, ensuring technical compliance, quality, cost, safety, sustainability, and environmental performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate technical aspects of project engineering, design, and drafting.
  • Monitor project design team progress, provide input, and offer feedback and support.
  • Coordinate multi-discipline engineering, design, and drafting resources to achieve deliverables.
  • Provide engineering designs and solutions within agreed milestones and to a high standard.
  • Approve, guide, and review engineering designs, including calculations and design development.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering and design procedures, including calculation checking, design reviews, and change management.
  • Maximize team productivity and efficiency by planning, scheduling, and allocating resources.
  • Incorporate safety in design and technical integrity within the engineering design process.
  • Contribute to engineers-in-training professional development and identify avenues for development.
  • Develop and contribute to improvement initiatives supporting business priorities for continuous improvement.
Requirements:
  • Relevant tertiary education qualifications in Engineering (Mechanical or equivalent).
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in mineral processing or related industries, with experience in gold, base metals, or lithium considered favorably.
  • CPEng and RPEQ accreditation preferred.
  • High attention to detail, demonstrated technical ability, and exceptional knowledge across a broad range of disciplines.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing high-quality service to clients within budget and time constraints.
  • Extensive understanding of studies, projects, and detailed design execution, mine operation challenges, and requirements, and risk management process.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client interaction skills.
  • Willingness to travel outside Australia on an ad-hoc basis to suit business needs.
  • Commitment to continuously seek improvement in engineering solutions and design with a focus on new technologies and innovation.
  • Intuitive leadership skills with the ability to initiate, lead, and manage change in a complex environment.
  • Proven commitment to provide mentoring and identify avenues of professional development and succession planning to personnel within your team.
