Perinatal Mental Health Specialist

The North West Perinatal Community Mental Health Service is a highly specialized mental health service that delivers comprehensive expert care, including assertive case management, triage, holistic physical and mental health assessment, clinical risk management, and crisis intervention within the community setting for individuals with perinatal mental health needs.

  • Providing specialist care to women, infants, and their families within designated regions identified as at risk of or experiencing moderate to severe perinatal mental health disorders as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Conducting specialist mental health assessments and providing clinical management to promote positive maternal mental health and enhance parent-infant relationships.

This role involves working in accordance with shared care principles and within a multidisciplinary treatment team to facilitate access to specialist services and encourage engagement with internal and external agencies. A lead role in the development and implementation of system changes and service improvements within the Perinatal Mental Health Service team is also expected.

  • A strong background in mental health services, with demonstrated understanding of perinatal and infant mental health clinical practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and experience of psychiatric disorders occurring during the perinatal period and appropriate treatments.
  • A deep understanding of factors affecting an infant's emotional, social, cognitive, and behavioral development, both prenatally and postnatally.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide specialist care to women, infants, and their families at risk of or experiencing perinatal mental health disorders.
  2. Conduct thorough mental health assessments and develop tailored treatment plans to promote positive maternal mental health and strengthen parent-infant bonds.
  3. Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless service delivery and improve outcomes for individuals and families.
  4. Lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to enhance service quality and efficiency.
Requirements
  • Completed approved allied health professional tertiary qualification and registration with relevant National Board or professional association.
  • Current Working with Children Registration.

Desirable Criteria
  • Experience working in adult or child and adolescent mental health services or perinatal and infant mental health services.
  • Further education in perinatal or infant mental health, or counseling.
