Job Summary:

This role involves the application of systems engineering principles to convert customer needs into total systems solutions, taking into account technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, and execution of requirements analysis, systems design, analyses and trade studies, hardware/software design oversight, requirements verification, systems integration, systems support, and systems test.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Estimate, plan, and execute systems engineering activities
  • Elicit, clarify, define, and develop system requirements
  • Allocate system requirements to subsystems and oversee lower-level requirement development
  • Define operational concepts
  • Perform analyses and trade studies for system concept selection
  • Support project teams in defining and documenting system architecture and design
  • Ensure compliance with requirements and system design during hardware and software design development
  • Coordinate associate systems engineers' work under principal systems engineer lead
  • Plan and oversee hardware/software integration activities
  • Support system level test planning and implementation
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines for integrated team and project cohesion
  • Perform technical risk management activities
  • Support project risk management
  • Lead engineering activities for new business proposals and cost rationale development
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in system, software, or electrical engineering, computer science, information systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a software-driven technology environment
  • Experience supporting teams on systems definition
  • Formal systems engineering/solution architecture experience
  • Team-level experience in development or technology integration teams
  • Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycles using Waterfall and Agile approaches
  • Awareness of software development best practices and ability to apply standards and procedures effectively
  • Familiarity with expressing system designs using UML and SysML
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering standards and Health and Safety legislative requirements
  • Experience working in formal project structures following ISO 9001 processes
  • High awareness of budget, schedule, and quality in relation to project deliverables
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience working on complex engineering projects
  • Data modeling and system design using formal notations
  • Project coordination experience
  • Knowledge of embedded devices and engineered IT system solutions
  • Ticketing and automated fare collection, or similar applications involving large networks
  • Enterprise Architect for systems modeling experience
  • IBM Rational DOORS for requirements management experience
  • Familiarity with software and systems engineering standards ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288
  • Familiarity with systems architecture standards ISO/IEC/IEEE 42010
Salary Estimate:

$120,000 - $150,000 per annum, depending on experience
