About Our Island Community

Warraber Island, also known as Sue Island, is a picturesque haven in the heart of the Vigilant Channel. Its warm waters and vibrant coral reefs create a thriving ecosystem, teeming with fish, turtles, and dugong. The island's people belong to the Kulkalaig group from the Central Islands of the Torres Strait, with deep cultural ties to the land.

Rich in traditional foods, Warraber Island offers an abundance of wongai, coconuts, and other native resources. Life on the island remains steeped in tradition, where hunting, dancing, and thayilai (feasts) play essential roles in daily life, keeping heritage alive for generations.

About Our Campus

The Warraber Campus serves as an educational hub for the community, established in 1985 and integrated into Tagai State College in 2007. It provides education to students from Kindergarten to Year 6, with a unique focus on supporting students for whom English is an additional language.

The school is part of a broader educational framework that includes both primary and secondary campuses, with strong ties to the FNQTAFE campus on Thursday Island. Tagai State College plays a crucial role in maintaining educational standards and fostering opportunities for students across the Torres Strait's vast 48,000-square-kilometre region.

About The Role

We are seeking an aspiring educational leader to guide our dynamic learning community. As Head of Campus, this role focuses on teaching leadership, with an emphasis on fostering language and cultural activities central to our curriculum.
