Job Title: Official Visitor

We are seeking community-based appointments as Official Visitors to NSW custodial centres.

  • Community-based appointment under the NSW Government Boards and Committees framework
  • Time commitment of one day a fortnight or one day a month

About Us:

The Inspector of Custodial Services (ICS) oversees adult correctional facilities and youth justice centres, inspecting and reporting to Parliament on findings. The ICS also oversees the Official Visitor Program in correctional facilities and youth justice centres.

About The Role:

Official Visitors work to resolve enquiries and complaints made by inmates and assist in monitoring the conditions and treatment of inmates in custodial centres throughout New South Wales (NSW). Official Visitors are community-based appointments made by the Minister for Corrections.

Successful applicants are normally assigned to one custodial centre for up to four years to conduct half day or full day visits to the centre either once a fortnight or once a month.

Vacancies exist at various custodial centres throughout NSW, with suitable candidates may be added to a talent pool to fill any appointments that may become vacant over the next 18 months.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report writing skills, computer skills, and access to the internet and email
  • Ability and willingness to travel to attend training or corporate activities when required

Essential Requirements:

  • National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
  • Association disclosures
  • Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
