Senior Arborist

About the Role

• We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Arborist to join our team at the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan.
• As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the management and curation of our highly tree collections, including risk management, tree maintenance programs, and technical advice on developments affecting trees within the Garden.

About You

In this role, you will effectively manage a small team, implementing new arboriculture practices and prioritizing workload. Balancing appropriate tree management techniques with conservation, safety, and horticultural issues is essential to success in the role.

You will be responsible for implementing our tree management policies and procedures, including tree risk assessments and determining risk control actions. You will also ensure accurate recording, data entry, and analysis of arboriculture collections using the IrisBG plant database and GIS systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Manage and curate highly tree collections, including risk management and tree maintenance programs.
2. Provide technical advice on developments affecting trees within the Garden.
3. Implement tree management policies and procedures, including tree risk assessments and determining risk control actions.
4. Ensure accurate recording, data entry, and analysis of arboriculture collections using the IrisBG plant database and GIS systems.

Requirements

• Diploma in Arboriculture AQF5 or equivalent with experience in a wide range of tree maintenance and services, including pest and disease control, weed management, plant nutrition, and irrigation control.
• Level II Chainsaw Operation/Fell Trees Manually (Intermediate).
• Qualification in Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) and ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ or equivalent).
• Experience in the arboriculture industry, including the ability to conduct tree climbing and complex rigging works.
• Ability to assess and prepare reports on tree risk assessment and other tree-related data.
• Experience supervising a wide range of arboriculture services and maintenance programs.
• Experience in the maintenance and use of arboriculture and horticulture plant and equipment.
• Current NSW Driver's licence and ability to drive manual vehicles.
• Able and willing to undertake fieldwork for extended periods and able to lift and carry a minimum of 15 kilos.
