We are seeking an exceptional academic to join our team as a Lecturer in Strategic Studies at UNSW Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.



About the Role

This is a full-time, 35-hour per week position with continuing tenure. The successful candidate will be involved in advancing the School's international profile by conducting scholarly research, contributing to the supervision of research students, and undertaking a range of teaching duties.



Main Responsibilities


  • Demonstrate a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning in strategic studies, contemporary military affairs/operations, and/or defence policy, with a focus on Australian and/or the Indo-Pacific region.
  • Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements, and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in line with UNSW policy.
  • Design and develop learning activities and resources and provide assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments in military and non-military related subject areas.
  • Initiate the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning with the support of more senior academics.
  • Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course-related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students.
  • Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team (as per the norms of the discipline) and design research projects.
  • Contribute to the development of applications for competitive funding under the guidance of senior colleagues, including participating as co-investigator or chief investigator in competitive grant applications.


Eligibility and Requirements

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in the field of strategic studies (or a related discipline), contemporary military affairs/operations, and/or defence policy, with a focus on Australian and/or the Indo-Pacific region.



Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is estimated to be between $123,620 and $145,730 per annum, plus 17% superannuation. UNSW offers a comprehensive remuneration package, including generous superannuation contributions, employee discounts, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
