Gardener - Groundskeeper

We are seeking a skilled Gardener - Handyperson to join our team at Northcliffe District High School. As a key member, you will be instrumental in maintaining the school grounds, ensuring they are safe, tidy, and conducive to a positive environment for both students and staff.
Responsibilities include overseeing turf areas, garden beds, and shrubs, as well as managing hard landscaping features like courts and paving. You will also be responsible for maintaining gardening facilities, equipment, and tools in good condition, promoting a positive culture within the school.
Collaborate with the Manager of Corporate Services to develop safe work procedures, undertake risk assessments, and ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation.
This is a permanent part-time (0.6 FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2025, and we welcome applicants who are passionate about cultivating not just landscapes but also a positive and vibrant school culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the school grounds, ensuring they are safe, tidy, and conducive to a positive environment
- Oversee turf areas, garden beds, and shrubs
- Manage hard landscaping features like courts and paving
- Maintain gardening facilities, equipment, and tools in good condition
- Collaborate with the Manager of Corporate Services to develop safe work procedures and ensure compliance with OSH legislation
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated sound communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining grounds and gardens, including turf management
- Demonstrated experience in minor servicing of horticultural/gardening equipment and performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks
- Demonstrated knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials, and chemicals
Eligibility
- Obtain a valid Working With Children Check
- Consent to a National Criminal History Check with the Department's Screening Unit
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment
