About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Analyst to join our team at CSIRO. As a key member of our science operations team, you will be responsible for leading a team of data analysts/operators to support SKA-Low science operations and development activities during the construction phase.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Manage the performance of the data analyst/operator team, including setting milestones and performance goals, managing rosters, providing mentorship and nurturing development.
  • Day-to-Day Operations: Lead the day-to-day activities of the operator team, providing guidance on work duties and ensuring the successful operation of the telescope array.
  • Astronomical Observations: Conduct, monitor, and calibrate astronomical observations, utilizing appropriate computing resources to achieve successful operation of the telescope array.
  • System Checks and Maintenance: Lead system checks, maintenance handovers, array and correlator/beamformer configurations, and setups.
  • Quality Assurance: Drive quality assurance of data obtained from early array releases and using existing low-frequency data sets.
  • Software Development: Provide guidance and direction to operator-oriented software development.
Requirements
  • Education: An undergraduate degree or higher in astronomy, physics, engineering, computing, or a related field.
  • Leadership Experience: Experience in leading, managing, and developing a diverse team.
  • Technical Skills: Aptitude to control and operate a scientific research facility, including familiarity with monitoring, controlling, and scheduling.
  • Scientific Knowledge: Appreciation of steps required for the acquisition and processing of scientific data.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Equitable Practices: An awareness of equitable practices, including accessibility, to facilitate broad access to the Observatory.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Radio Astronomy Experience: Experience in radio astronomy observations and data reduction pipelines, especially at low frequencies.
  • Low-Frequency Calibration: Familiarity with low-frequency radio astronomy calibration techniques.
