Upholstering Craftsman

We are seeking a skilled Upholstering Craftsman to join our team.

Job Description

The primary role of the Upholstering Craftsman is to design, create and repair upholstered furniture items. This includes making, rebuilding and repairing articles such as chairs, sofas, beds and mattresses.

The ideal candidate will have excellent craftsmanship skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently. They will be responsible for:

  • Consulting with customers to discuss their upholstery preferences.
  • Removing old fabrics, padding, springs, webbing and fittings from furniture.
  • Assessing the condition of furniture frames and repairing or replacing wooden and metal components as needed.
  • Using tools such as screwdrivers, pliers and power tools for these tasks.
  • Measuring, cutting and adjusting upholstery materials according to design specifications.
  • Constructing wooden structures for restaurant booth seating as directed.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in upholstery, including experience with hand tools and power tools. They will also possess excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively with customers.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, applicants must have:

  • AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV.
  • In the absence of qualification, 3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Excellent design skills, attention to detail, the ability to draw and interpret design templates, and knowledge of upholstery tools such as hot knives, nail guns and sewing equipment.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. They will also be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and be able to adapt to changing priorities.
