About the Role

The University of Notre Dame Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Student Counsellor to join our team. As a Student Counsellor, you will play a critical role in providing professional counselling services to students, facilitating their personal, emotional, social, and educational transition and adjustment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide confidential and ethical counselling services to students, including assessment, case-management, and referral to external agencies as needed.
  • Participate in peer and group supervision, client outcome evaluation, and quality assurance processes, including maintaining accurate student records and documentation.
  • Deliver crisis intervention support and strategies to students, and provide referrals to those affected by incidents involving students.
  • Develop and deliver workshops, training, and group facilitation on topics such as client-centred and short-term solution-focused counselling, CBT, ACT, and mindfulness.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide strategic and specialist input on the development of university mental wellbeing, safety, pastoral care, mediation, and learning support for students.
Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology or counselling, with experience in the higher education sector and student challenges.
  • Significant experience in delivering workshops with individuals and groups.
  • Registration with a relevant professional body, such as AHPRA and/or Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and/or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
  • Ability to provide a range of counselling services tailored to student needs, using evidence-based approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience in outcome-informed counselling approaches, including strong assessment, intervention, and referral skills.
  • Experience in working with high-risk students and complex mental health issues.
  • Ability to communicate and present information to internal stakeholders, and manage time and organisational skills.
