Job Description">

Canonical is seeking a skilled Linux Kernel Engineer to join our global team. As a key member of our kernel organization, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of Ubuntu Linux kernels across various platforms and architectures.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in C programming and a solid understanding of operating system kernel internals and concepts. They will also possess excellent written and spoken English communication skills and the ability to travel twice a year for company events.

  • Collaborate with a globally distributed team to diagnose and resolve kernel issues reported by customers and the community.
  • Work closely with external silicon, cloud, or hardware manufacturer delivery teams on bleeding-edge platforms.
  • Take personal responsibility for the delivery of a flavor of the Ubuntu Linux kernel.
  • Improve tooling and automation for delivery and test of Ubuntu Linux kernels.
  • Submit, review, and apply kernel patches, working with both internal and external upstream maintainers.

Required Skills and Qualifications">

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Significant programming experience in C, with Python, Golang, or other like languages highly regarded.
  • Experience with operating system kernel internals and concepts, Linux highly regarded but not essential.
  • Solid background with git.
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred).
  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
