The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join its Commercial Disputes team. As a key member of the team, you will provide expert legal advice on complex issues, with a primary focus on the State's involvement in cladding cost recovery litigation and associated Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) processes.
You will play a critical role in delivering exceptional client service, offering timely, clear, and pragmatic legal advice. Your key responsibilities will include managing the cladding cost recovery program of litigation, overseeing commercial litigation and ADR processes, and providing recommendations to senior stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing litigation, ADR, and other commercial disputes, with a strong understanding of legal best practices. You will be proactive in fostering relationships with stakeholders and contribute to the advancement of DTP's objectives by staying up to date with industry trends.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the cladding cost recovery program of litigation, including overseeing commercial litigation and ADR processes
- Provide expert legal advice on complex issues, with a primary focus on cladding cost recovery litigation and ADR processes
- Offer timely, clear, and pragmatic legal advice to support informed decision-making
- Provide recommendations to senior stakeholders to support informed decision-making
Requirements
- Admitted, or eligible to be admitted, to practice as a lawyer in Victoria
- Current tertiary degree in law
- Demonstrated experience managing complex litigation and related ADR either in an in-house legal role or through private practice experience
- Demonstrated experience working on complex construction litigation and related ADR, or infrastructure or service contract-related disputes would be viewed favorably
- Demonstrated in-house legal experience
- Demonstrated experience working for or advising government, including awareness of government-specific considerations relevant to legal advice such as 'Model Litigant' obligations
- Demonstrated experience managing delivery of legal services by external partners
