About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Engagement Officer to join our team in Canberra. As an Engagement Officer, you will play a key role in supporting Assistant Directors in engaging with stakeholders to achieve maximum benefits for Indigenous Australians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Travel to remote localities to engage with stakeholders and deliver voter education sessions and enrolment activities.
  • Liaise with partners to arrange meetings at the community level to understand local challenges to electoral participation.
  • Identify and assist candidates to apply for temporary election polling positions.
  • Obtain relevant approvals to enter community for engagement activities and ensure local protocols are followed.
  • Develop and actively manage key internal and complex external relationships, including collaborating with key stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation.
  • Provide high-quality and timely advice internally on business processes, specifically as they relate to Indigenous outcomes.
  • Make and communicate decisions using professional judgement, evaluating risks in the context of a complex and changing environment.
  • Contribute to evaluation activities and support other continual improvement activities based on Quality Management Systems.
  • Be a strong contributor to the positive team culture to ensure high-quality outputs.
Requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tailor messages and information for a variety of audiences of varying seniority.
  • Organised, with strong ability to contribute to activities, including attention to detail and delivering results.
  • Ability to identify problems and work to resolve them.
  • A strong commitment to working harmoniously within a team to achieve positive results.
  • An understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • An ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Relevant qualifications in Indigenous studies or community engagement/education.
  • Knowledge of legislation and programs and policies.
