Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer to join our team in Melbourne, delivering high-quality technical documentation for Defence programs. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for analyzing requirements and developing source material for technical documentation.

Working closely with editors, illustrators, and other stakeholders, you will prepare draft documentation and produce complex technical documents such as procedure manuals, service manuals, and related publications. Your expertise in creating documentation covering installation, operation, and maintenance of electronic, electrical, mechanical, and other technical equipment will be invaluable.

You will develop materials including operational specifications, bulletins, articles, service manuals, and marketing publications. Additionally, you will rewrite existing articles, bulletins, manuals, or similar publications as required.

As part of our dynamic team, you will participate in the development of organizational goals and procedures. You will plan and prepare technical content for major publication projects, oversee the compiling, writing, editing, and coordination of technical documentation, and provide work leadership and mentorship to lower-level employees as needed.

We value your skills in investigating and making recommendations regarding challenges encountered in documentation projects. If you have demonstrated experience in technical writing/publication development, ideally within the defence or aerospace industry, this could be the opportunity for you.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A strong knowledge of technical publication standards such as S1000D, ADFP, and DEF(AUST) standards.
  • Experience working with CSDBs and electronic documentation tools (e.g., Arbortext, Adobe FrameMaker, Oxygen XML Editor).
  • Familiarity with engineering and ILS processes, including configuration management and supportability engineering.
  • High attention to detail and strong written communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within project teams under tight deadlines.
