Job Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior HSE Manager to join our team at Voith Hydro in Australia. As a key member of our project team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and environmental compliance of our construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement site-specific HSE programs, including risk assessments, safe work method statements, and environmental plans.
- Supervise the daily activities of the site HSE team and manage work according to scheduled activities, ensuring proactive identification of bottlenecks and provision of solutions.
- Act as the subject matter expert for all health, safety, and environmental site issues, performing site audits and inspections, and driving HSE audits and action plans.
- Implement and follow KPIs and requirements to maintain compliance for Voith, clients, and authorities, analyzing and supporting site accident investigations, incidents, or near misses, and delivering corrective and preventive actions.
- Evaluate programs, issue recommendations, and implement required changes for continuous improvement to ensure site HSE compliance with legislation and client requirements.
- Ensure suitable policies, management systems, and controls are applied across HSE, providing coaching to the project team and arranging HSE training as necessary.
- Work with the HR Manager and Project Director to manage Workers' Compensation Claims and Return to Work programs, conducting qualitative and quantitative HSE reporting, and participating in internal and client HSE meetings.
- Lead and participate in Environment and Social Governance initiatives, such as energy conservation and waste reduction.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in a health, safety, and environmental management role, preferably within the renewable energy, mining, or construction industries.
- In-depth knowledge of HSE regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing effective HSE programs.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in HSE management software and tools.
- Demonstrated experience in a Senior/Management level position.
- Strong experience in Hydro Power Plant construction projects is a plus, oil and gas sector, or heavy construction projects.
- Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills and a pragmatic view of HSE as an integral part of a construction project with schedule targets.
- Thorough understanding of local and provincial regulations in Australia/New South Wales, and federal regulations, including Workplace Relations Management and Heavy Vehicles National Laws.
Working Conditions
- A typical roster of 14 days in, 7 days out.
