Ipswich, Australia Ipswich City Council Full time

About Ipswich City Council

Ipswich City Council is a local government authority responsible for delivering effective and transparent governance to the City of Ipswich, Queensland's oldest provincial city. The council's strategic leadership is provided by an elected mayor and eight councillors, who work together to deliver high-quality services to the community. With a diverse workforce of over 1500 employees, the council operates across various specialist teams and locations, providing a range of services to residents and businesses.

The City of Ipswich is undergoing a transformational era, driven by rapid economic, demographic, and paradigm shifts. This presents a critical opportunity for investment in city-shaping infrastructure and policy reform, enabling a connected, prosperous, and liveable South-East Queensland region.

About the Role

The General Manager, Asset and Infrastructure Services, will play a critical role in planning, delivering, and maintaining the council's assets and infrastructure, including built facilities, open spaces, roads, and drainage. This will involve maintaining positive relationships with elected representatives, the executive leadership team, and the broader organisation, while creating a dynamic atmosphere of continuous improvement and a safety-first culture.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering value for money services that meet community expectations, building effective professional networks with government and industry stakeholders, and managing risk and identifying opportunities for collaboration. Key priorities will include the implementation of the council's Infrastructure Plan and City-Wide Capital Works Program, as well as the continued implementation of the Effective Asset Management Project.

About the Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a highly visible, empathetic, and customer-focused leader with significant experience in a similar-sized or larger organisation, ideally within a government environment or private sector organisation that delivers a range of services to its customers. The successful candidate will have previously overseen a large and diverse workforce and possess demonstrated success in lifting organisational performance through prudent risk-based decision making. Superior negotiation, consultation, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential, and a relevant professional qualification or substantial equivalent experience and postgraduate qualification would be advantageous.
