About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Data Scientist to join our team at the Australian Energy Market Operator. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in developing medium to long-term forecasts for Australia's energy markets using advanced techniques like machine learning, predictive modeling, and time series analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and test advanced forecasting models for gas and electricity demand, using techniques like machine learning and deep neural networks.
  • Collaborate with other teams on integrated modeling efforts, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of energy demand.
  • Effectively communicate complex modeling approaches and results to both internal and external stakeholders through reports and presentations.
  • Manage data exchanges with strategic partners, contributing to a multi-sectoral framework for forecasting.

Requirements:

  • Advanced Degree: Typically, a master's or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in machine learning or data science, such as DataBricks Certified Machine Learning in Production.
  • Experience: Strong background in forecasting, optimization, and time series analysis, especially within the energy sector.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Python, R, SQL, PowerBI, and familiar with cloud technologies like Azure and DataBricks and visualisation tools, PowerBI.
  • Industry Knowledge: Understanding of AEMO's role, energy sector developments, and the challenges of a transforming power system.
