Special Forces Operator Role

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate as an individual or team member, employing tactics, techniques, and procedures specific to Special Operations.
  • Perform combat survival tactics and operate in various environments.
  • Apply advanced close quarter battle, close quarter fighting, and urban and rural fighting techniques applicable to Special Operations.
  • Operate and maintain a range of ADF and SF weapons.
  • Participate in live fire range practices, including those specific to SF training and operations.
  • Negotiate vertical obstacles using specialized climbing techniques.
  • Conduct insertion via military free fall parachute or basic static line parachute techniques onto land or water.
  • Insert or extract using SF airborne roping techniques.
  • Apply first aid in a combat environment.
  • Operate secure tactical and operational communications equipment.
  • Operate specialist vehicles during SF training and operations.
  • Operate in the maritime environment and perform coxswain duties on SF watercraft.
  • Plan, brief, control, and report close air support on the battlefield for ADF and major coalition partners.

Suitability:

You can become a SF Operator directly through the Direct Recruitment Scheme (DRS) pathway, with no prior ADF experience required. You must demonstrate ADF values and display role-specific attributes, including leadership, trainability, teamwork, self-discipline, and more.

The rigorous process includes the Special Forces Entry Test (SFET) and Special Forces Selection Course (SFSC), designed to identify your character attributes and determine suitability for Special Operations service.
