The Department of Communities and Justice values the significance of lived experience in our community work.
We are seeking a Bail Coordinator to work on a roster pattern with an annualised shift allowance for weekends and public holidays, from 4pm-3am.
This role provides bail intervention options after hours (4pm-3am, 365 days) for NSW Police across the State, aiming to reduce young people in custody on bail and requiring accommodation or casework assistance.
Youth Justice has Close the Gap responsibilities to decrease First Nations people entering custody, focusing on engaging Aboriginal communities and organisations supporting this goal.
The Bail Coordinator undertakes after-hours assessments by phone of a young person's suitability for bail, diverting them from custody where appropriate.
The role coordinates placements across NSW, liaising with NSW Police, funded service providers, Youth Justice Centres, Child Protection and Permanency Helpline, and maintaining community networks.
Responsibilities include maintaining statistical databases according to relevant legislation and agency policies.
We require someone with a current NSW Working with Children Check clearance, Driver's licence, willingness to travel, and National Criminal History Record Check as per the Disability Inclusion Act 2014.
Knowledge of the criminal justice system as it applies to children and young people is highly desirable.
We seek someone able to work independently, engage proactively with stakeholders, and develop child-centred approaches to homelessness.
The ideal candidate will be part of a small team that prides itself on initiative, flexibility, and commitment to positive outcomes for children and young people.
A flexible approach to work is necessary to adapt to changing demands and priorities.
Exceptional communication and customer service skills, as well as understanding complex issues like disability, cognitive impairment, and socio-economic disadvantage, are required.
