Job Overview

The position of Head of Government Relations and Public Affairs requires a highly skilled professional to lead the organization's interactions with governments and stakeholders, driving positive outcomes for the community.

This role involves developing and implementing comprehensive government relations and public affairs strategies, promoting initiatives and policies through strong working relationships, and monitoring the political and regulatory environment for opportunities and impacts.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in government relations and public affairs, with a strong network of government and associated relationships. They will possess deep understanding and interest in the political and legislative process, as well as excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

About the Role
  • Liaise with key Ministerial and Shadow contacts, Members of Parliament, government departments, agencies, industry leaders, and regulatory bodies to promote SA's initiatives and policies
  • Develop and implement effective government relations and public affairs strategies to drive meaningful change and influence policies that enhance safety, innovation, and industry best practices
  • Contribute to the promotion, education, communication, influence, and publication of key advocacy messages and campaigns across all levels of government
  • Represent SA at external events, including government hearings and inquiries, and act as a spokesperson for SA, effectively communicating SA's positions and initiatives to external audiences
  • Provide government relations advice to senior management and the Executive Leadership Team to achieve key outcomes

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, or a related field, preferably within the standards, regulatory, association, or not-for-profit sectors
  • Tertiary level qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as Public Relations, Political Science, Communications, or a related field
  • Proven track record in developing and executing successful government relations and public affairs strategies, with a current strong network of government and associated relationships
