Achieve Group is seeking a PO3 Fisheries Biologist

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage and collaborate with fisheries stakeholders across Queensland.
  • Plan, prepare, and execute fieldwork under varying conditions, including remote locations and inclement weather.
  • Gather and manage data using appropriate software while adhering to quality assurance protocols.
  • Analyze and interpret datasets quantitatively.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research findings through scientific publications and reports within set deadlines.
  • Support the publication of fisheries research, including articles for scientific journals.
  • Employ analytical skills to address challenges and propose innovative solutions to enhance operations.
  • Work collaboratively within a team of scientists and technical personnel.
  • Establish and nurture effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government and industry leaders, to advance fisheries research.
  • Assist in developing outreach activities and materials to communicate research outcomes to the fisheries sector through reports and presentations.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards during field, laboratory, and boating activities.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of commercial fisheries and fishing gear performance.
  • Experience in the biology and ecology of tropical fisheries target species and relevant assessment methodologies.

Highly Desirable Skills:

  • Proven experience in utilizing technologies to enhance fishing gear efficiency.
  • Understanding of the evaluation processes for social, economic, and ecological performance of fisheries.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in building relationships with fisheries stakeholders and scientists.
  • Experience in project management and leading research initiatives.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders for research purposes.
  • Research experience, including project design, data collection, and analysis related to fish and fisheries.
  • Possession of a recreational boat driver's license.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., fisheries, biology, ecology, environmental science) from an accredited institution.
  • Current police clearance.
  • Valid C class driver's license.

Contract Duration:
The engagement term being sought is up to three years.
