Counselling Specialist

Centacare SFSS is a non-profit community organisation dedicated to strengthening family and community relationships. We deliver professional, accountable services while empowering our clients to find solutions and achieve their goals.

The role involves providing counselling to children, couples, adults, and families, assisting them in managing challenges and improving relationships. Counsellors will also facilitate group education sessions for diverse clients, focusing on brief solution-focused therapy, grief and loss, and relationship counselling.

Key Responsibilities:

• Complete client intake, including initial and ongoing risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis counselling as required.
• Provide brief solution-focused counselling sessions for children, couples, adults, and families.
• Facilitate psycho-educational or therapeutic group sessions.
• Manage client referrals and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive client outcomes.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Science from a recognised institution, including eligibility for membership with APS, AASW, PACFA, or ACA.
• Strong understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Act, Child Protection Act, and Family Law Act, as well as their impact on families.
• Proven experience in intake, risk assessment, case management, crisis intervention, and safety planning.
• Well-developed writing skills, including report writing, case notes, data collection, and data entry.
• Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advocate for clients' needs with statutory organisations/departments.
• Professionalism and integrity in working with clients, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
• Ability to support and work with diverse families facing complex needs.
• Availability for some after-hours work.

We offer a competitive remuneration package on the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award Level 5.
