Position Overview

The Agronomist will report directly to the Regional Agronomist and collaborate closely with Farm Managers, agronomy and irrigation personnel, as well as external consultants. This role involves the development and oversight of a comprehensive agronomy and irrigation operational plan aimed at maximizing fruit yield, quality, size, and profitability across all farming assets.

Key Responsibilities

The Agronomist will be responsible for achieving various critical agronomic and food safety objectives while fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders to implement agronomic strategies effectively.

Specific Duties Include:
  1. Implementing agronomic and technical programs along with pruning strategies to optimize returns per hectare.
  2. Providing expert advice on nutrition, pest and disease management, pruning, fruit thinning, and sizing.
  3. Ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
  4. Training irrigation personnel on water budgeting and scheduling practices applicable to diverse varieties and plantings.
  5. Assisting in the preparation of capital expenditure plans to facilitate the execution of irrigation and fertigation initiatives.
  6. Engaging with relevant industry organizations and technical groups to enhance agronomic knowledge and promote continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Skills
  1. A Degree or Diploma in Agronomy.
  2. A minimum of 10 years of extensive experience in horticultural production.
  3. In-depth knowledge of plant growth regulators and insecticides utilized in citrus cultivation.
  4. Proficiency in implementing regulated deficit irrigation trials and analyzing data.
  5. Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel.
