Senior Solicitor

NAAJA is seeking a highly skilled Senior Solicitor / Intermediate Solicitor to join our dynamic team in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek, or Alice Springs. As a key member of our criminal law team, you will provide high-quality legal representation and advice to our clients, with a focus on criminal law matters.

• Represent clients in criminal court proceedings, including bail applications, pleas, trials, and appeals
• Advise clients on criminal law matters and their legal rights and options
• Conduct legal research, prepare legal documents, and liaise with relevant stakeholders
• Maintain detailed and accurate case files and records
• Contribute to the development and implementation of NAAJA's legal strategies and policies
• Collaborate with the wider legal team to ensure the provision of a comprehensive and effective legal service
• Mentor junior staff and provide guidance and support as required

• Admission (or eligibility for admission) as a legal practitioner in the Northern Territory with a minimum of 5 years post-admission experience (Senior Solicitor)
• Admission (or eligibility for admission) as a legal practitioner in the Northern Territory with a minimum of 3 years post-admission experience (Intermediate Solicitor)
• Significant experience in criminal law, with a strong understanding of the legal system and court procedures
• Excellent legal research, writing, and advocacy skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Commitment to social justice and working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

• Salary packaging options up to $18,450 per annum tax-free
• Remote allowance of $3,300 per annum (if applicable)
