Job Description

In this role, you will provide intake, counselling, and support services to families affected by domestic and family violence. You will work with vulnerable families using a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach to assist them to thrive in a future free of violence and abuse.

Key Accountabilities
  • To complete client intakes, including initial risk assessment and safety planning, in accordance with Centacare's policies and procedures.
  • To provide counselling to a diverse range of stakeholders, including psychoeducation, crisis counselling, and group facilitation for children, couples, adults, and families.
  • To identify and address the immediate needs and goals of clients, ensuring they receive the support and services required to increase their safety and recovery.
  • To advocate on behalf of women and children experiencing violence and abuse, making suitable referrals, assessing eligibility for safety upgrades, and other forms of practical assistance.
  • To participate in meetings and liaise with other local stakeholders, e.g., Child Safety, to ensure comprehensive support for clients.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Science from a recognised institution.
  • A well-developed understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Act, Child Protection Act, and Family Law Act, as well as the issues and impacts on families engaged in these systems.
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience in providing trauma-informed care, triaging crisis, a good understanding of risk management, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Highly effective communication, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to advocate for clients' needs with other statutory organisations/departments.
