Job Description\

As a member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the care and maintenance activities for war graves and memorials across Australia. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the recognition of service members and veterans.

The Office of Australian War Graves (OAWG) works in collaboration with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) to maintain war cemeteries, individual war graves, and memorials for members of the Commonwealth forces who died during the First and Second World Wars.

\

Under the direction of the State Operations Manager, you will be responsible for providing specialist operational support to other OAWG Depots. This includes programming work for staff and contractors to carry out horticultural and structural maintenance tasks.

Key aspects of this role include:

  • Undertaking trade-level horticultural works, including cultivation, pruning, and treating plant diseases and pests;
  • Performing duties under limited supervision in remote locations, working independently as directed;
  • Providing guidance, support, and mentoring to staff and contractors to achieve service delivery standards;
  • Operating plant, machinery, and vehicles; and
  • Carrying out/overseeing structural works such as minor landscape construction, stonemasonry, concreting, and memorial maintenance tasks.

**Required Skills and Qualifications**

To succeed in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • A minimum Certificate III in Horticulture or a related field;
  • Current driving license;
  • Ability to work independently in remote locations;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Capacity to mentor and guide others.

**Notes**

This is a non-ongoing position, initially offered for a term of up to 18 months. A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies over the next 18 months.
