About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Commercial Winemaker to join our team at Berri Estate. As a key member of our winemaking team, you will be responsible for overseeing daily cellar and laboratory activities, managing ferment tastings, making blending decisions, and ensuring compliance with bulk wine, packaging, and bottling requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Elicit winemaking program flexibility to adapt to changing wine conditions and cellar/winery capabilities.
- Oversee daily Cellar & Laboratory activities, including distribution of Cellar notes and data entry.
- Lead daily ferment tastings during vintage and ensure timely work order delivery.
- Make tasting and blending decisions for red & white wines to achieve the desired quality/style.
- Monitor all responsible brand blends, ensuring compliance with bulk wine, packaging, and bottling requirements.
- Execute picking decisions in line with intended volume, quality, and style for responsible brands.
- Propose and prepare tastings/information for customer visits and new product opportunities.
- Ensure ongoing certification of Risk Management Systems and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Similar experience working in a large Winemaker position or similar.
- Autonomy and the flexibility to execute on strategy as well as deliver excellent hands-on work.
- Demonstrated experience of delivering on continuous improvement initiatives aligned with best industry practice.
- Tertiary qualification in Winemaking or related science.
- Full working rights - visa holders included.
- Proactivity, excellent organisational skills and a passion for wine.
