Job Description:
  • Oversee the statutory planning functions of a local government authority, delivering efficient and effective services to the community.
  • Process complex permit applications within the legislative framework, ensuring timely and high-quality outcomes.
  • Provide expert analysis and advice on planning applications, schemes, and policies to internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Mentor and support junior planners to enhance their technical capabilities and confidence.
  • Lead high-profile projects that contribute to the development of a stronger, more viable local government area.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of streamlined development approvals processes.
Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of Victorian planning legislation and the ability to apply relevant frameworks.
  • Mature judgement and decision-making skills, aligning with local government policies and objectives.
  • Proven capacity to prepare reports and recommendations for senior management and external bodies.
  • Effective communication and team leadership skills, motivating colleagues to achieve shared goals.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or equivalent, with several years' experience and eligibility for corporate membership of professional institutions.
  • Extensive experience in statutory planning within local government, demonstrating applicable skills and knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of Victorian Planning Policy, with awareness of current planning, economic, social, and environmental issues and policy development.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other productivity tools, with ability to learn new software systems quickly.
