We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our team as a Youth Justice Aboriginal Case Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced individual to make a positive difference in the lives of young people.
The Youth Justice Team provides community-based supervision and case management services for young people who are appearing before or have been sentenced by the Children's Court, Children's Koori Court, and adult criminal courts. The team promotes the personal development of young offenders and contributes to the reduction of crime in the community.
You will work with a diverse range of young people, including those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, and provide culturally responsive support to help them achieve their goals and overcome challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing case management and support services to young people on youth justice supervised orders;
- Acknowledging the over-representation of Aboriginal young people in the criminal justice system and working to address this issue through culturally based approaches;
- Working collaboratively with other agencies and stakeholders to ensure the needs of young people are met;
- Developing and implementing case plans that take into account the unique needs and circumstances of each young person;
- Monitoring progress and making adjustments as needed to ensure young people are achieving their goals;
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal Youth community;
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal youth community, society, culture, and current issues self-determination and the issues;
- Understanding of the youth justice system, and the issues driving Aboriginal over-representation of Aboriginal young people as well as the principles and philosophy underpinning relevant legislation and the Victorian Youth Justice program;
- Understanding of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and associated policies and guidelines developed for use by youth justice workers;
- Understanding of the principles of case management and case work and being able to utilise a range of assessment and interventions relevant to the age, gender, developmental stage, and cultural background and offending related needs of the young person.
