Senior Environmental Impact Assessment Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Environmental Impact Assessment Officer to provide leadership and expertise in environmental impact assessments across the Asset Lifecycle. This role will ensure compliance with environmental, heritage, and development approvals, delivering sustainable outcomes that meet customer expectations.
About the PersonYou are a passionate and experienced environmental professional with a strong background in environmental impact assessments and regulatory compliance. You have proven expertise in managing environmental, heritage, and development approvals, along with a talent for providing strategic advice and building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. You are also a natural leader, eager to provide technical leadership and mentorship to develop and grow a high-functioning team dedicated to achieving sustainable environmental outcomes.
About Science and StrategyThe Science and Strategy group employs scientific approaches to address present and upcoming challenges. They execute a strategy driven by customer preferences to elevate the SA Water brand and position us for future success.
Your Responsibilities- Provide Expert Advice: Offer expert advice on environmental and heritage impact assessments to ensure SA Water's capital delivery program meets regulatory compliance and achieves world-class standards.
- Manage Approvals: Identify, facilitate, and manage environmental, heritage, and development approvals to prevent avoidable delays and costs to projects.
- Monitor and Share Knowledge: Receive and monitor environment assessments, track emerging pollutants, and share knowledge with the business to support informed decision making.
- Maintain Environmental Frameworks: Maintain and implement environmental frameworks including for Water Affecting Activity and Native Vegetation Clearance approvals to maximise efficiency and effectiveness in meeting regulatory requirements.
- Provide Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership in environmental impact assessment to develop a high functioning team.
- Tertiary qualifications in a science or environment discipline or equivalent experience.
- Experience in undertaking environmental impact assessments and demonstrated experience in environmental auditing and inspections.
- Knowledge of Commonwealth and State planning, environmental and heritage legislation relevant to environmental impact assessment.
- Skills in collaboration, communication, negotiation and influencing.
- Experience in contract management and working with contractors to achieve outcomes – desirable.
- Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems and understanding of environmental sustainability approaches – desirable.
- Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal Heritage issues associated with delivering infrastructure projects – desirable.
- Sound understanding of potential environmental impacts relating to SA Water's activities – desirable.
