Energy Transition Specialist

Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is seeking a highly skilled professional to drive the company's positioning in policy, market design, and regulatory processes associated with distributed energy resources, consumer energy resources, and traditional demand-side activation.
The successful candidate will lead a team of market designers to develop and implement changes to markets and regulatory frameworks to deliver value to consumers and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and drive alignment with AEMO's strategic reform position associated with the integration and recognition of distributed energy resources, consumer energy resources, and traditional demand-side activation.
- Lead AEMO's positioning into all policy and regulatory processes associated with distributed energy resources, consumer energy resources, and traditional demand-side activation.
- Manage a highly competent team of market designers to engage across processes with Government, market bodies, and industry to develop proposals for reform and market design changes.
- Engage with senior management and executives to seek guidance and gain alignment to AEMO's strategic priorities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including representing AEMO in external working groups.
- Appropriate tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as engineering, economics.
- 7-10 years' experience in the energy industry in commercial, market body, or governmental department.
- Demonstrated experience in driving or influencing change in energy market design, regulation, or policy.
- Sound appreciation of the technical and/or economic issues affecting the physical operation of the electricity system and changes being or expected to be experienced through the energy transition.
- Practical working knowledge of the political, regulatory, and environmental frameworks in which AEMO and the energy markets are operating.
- Demonstrated experience in building and leading a cross-discipline team to deliver an outcome in a complex environment.
