About the Role

This position is accountable to the Chief Legal Officer and will be focused on the needs and aspirations of the Townsville community. The successful candidate will have detailed knowledge of and experience in property law, with general practice legal experience, along with experience in legal research and writing legal opinions. They will be experienced in local government, planning and development, commercial, and criminal law, and have excellent problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

The role will be required to provide advice on legislation relevant to Council, and general legal advice applicable to the operations of local government. This will include negotiating and drafting property-related documents, land acquisitions and sales, and property titling matters. The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing timely, high quality and strategically aligned legal advice to Council with a focus upon property law.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and skilled solicitor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have more than 5 years post-admission experience in property law, with a strong understanding of local government, planning and development, commercial, and criminal law. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential.

Townsville City Council offers a competitive salary package, up to 5 weeks annual leave, and a range of other benefits including 17.5% annual leave loading, up to 3 weeks personal/carers leave, 14 weeks paid parental leave, and domestic and family violence leave. We also offer up to 13.5% superannuation employer contribution for contributing members, and a range of learning and development opportunities.
