Senior Data Analyst in Computational Biology

The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute is seeking a highly motivated Research Officer to join its Genetics and Gene Regulation Division.
This exciting opportunity involves working on repeat expansions, identifying and understanding genetic risk factors of human diseases, with a strong interest in neurological disorders.
We are looking for a self-directed individual with a background in computer science to contribute to the development of novel repeat expansion analysis methods and investigate population variation and their impact on disease.
The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, including bioinformaticians, molecular biologists, and clinicians, analysing predominantly human sequencing data.
Key responsibilities include developing and testing algorithms, summarising research findings graphically, and writing scientific papers.
The position offers a full-time appointment for two years, with the potential for extension, at an academic level A6-B6 salary ($101,039 - $135,568), plus up to 17% superannuation and attractive salary packaging options.
A range of benefits are also available, including childcare support and flexible working arrangements.
To be successful, you will have a PhD in computer science or a quantitative discipline, demonstrated high-level computational expertise, and prior experience with analysis of large and mega-scale cohorts.
You will also have excellent organisational and time management skills, excellent communication skills, and a passion for human genetic research.
