About the Role

As a Technical Director - Traction Power, you'll play a key role in shaping our Rail Traction Power sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design of complex traction substation systems, including single line diagrams, layouts, circuit diagrams, earthing and bonding schematics, and coordination with communication, civil, structural, and mechanical design disciplines.
  • Conduct AC and DC traction power system studies, including equipment sizing, fault calculations, and insulation coordination studies.
  • Coordinate traction power system design with overhead wiring and signalling system design.
  • Design lightning protection systems and earthing systems, including pipeline LFI studies.
  • Manage the delivery of specialized components of projects, advising on the most effective team to achieve this.
  • Govern technical reviews and quality assurance activities for projects, documentation, processes, and practices.
  • Use technical knowledge to identify and realize new client opportunities and provide technical input into the bidding process.
  • Lead the technical development of staff, coaching and mentoring on technical issues.
  • Provide technical expertise and overview to clients and stakeholders, assisting them through technical decision-making and providing alternative options/solutions if there are changes to project parameters.
Requirements
  • 15+ years' experience as a power systems engineer, with at least 5 years recent experience in traction power system design or equivalent.
  • Tertiary qualification in electrical/power engineering, preferably chartered engineering and RPEQ status.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills, including a working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Highly regarded skills include experience in a design consultancy role, demonstrated ability to lead design teams and deliver traction design packages, experience working with traction power system modelling software tools, ability to develop complex earthing and induction models in CDEGS earthing system software, ability to develop traction power system models in ETAP or equivalent software tool, ability to develop transient studies in ATP/PSCAD/EMTP, ability to develop EMC management plans and manage the EMC management procedure, and ability to develop maintenance strategies and procedures, commissioning plans, and documentation.
