Data Centre Chief Engineer - Leading Infrastructure Operations
Job DescriptionA data centre chief engineer is required to lead our infrastructure operations team. This role involves overseeing the maintenance and operation of critical systems, ensuring maximum uptime and efficiency. You will be responsible for managing a team of engineering operation technicians and collaborating with internal stakeholders to deliver projects that enhance facility capacity, sustainability, and reliability.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical or mechanical engineering, with experience in maintaining critical environments such as data centres. They will possess excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage rotating shifts and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Key ResponsibilitiesCover gaps in a 24 x 7 rotating shift roster.
Manage the on-site delivery of contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring work is completed in accordance with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of critical facility infrastructure operations and maintenance.
Generate change management requests and incident management tickets for events managed by DCEO.
Work with DC managers (IT) and other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimise plant safety, performance, reliability, sustainability, and efficiency.
Establish documentation relevant to business and facility operations.
Manage the installation of racks and provision of power/cooling within constraints.
Review routine maintenance and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
Assist in designing, implementing, commissioning, and building out new facilities.
Drive and implement projects to increase current facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability, and reliability.
Manage facility assets and provide infrastructure and inventory asset management.
Attend and participate in regular construction and operational meetings as required.
Familiar with work order compliance to ensure all contractual SLAs are achieved.
Interface with infra ops management for day-to-day operational requirements.
Assist in recruiting efforts.
Assist in resolving infrastructure engineering or services issues.
Deliver exceptional customer service and satisfaction.
Supervise a team of engineering operation technicians on a daily basis.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of four years' experience in maintaining a data centre or critical space facility, with technical training in electrical or mechanical disciplines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Prior experience in leading teams and managing complex projects would be advantageous.
