Job Description

Job Title: Custodial Inspector Specialist

Job Summary:

The Tasmanian Government is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Custodial Inspector Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Custodial Inspectorate, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable individuals in our care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and report on conditions of youth detention, including regular visits to custodial centres and desktop monitoring.
  • Conduct mandatory and occasional inspections of custodial centres, with a focus on Ashley Youth Detention Centre.
  • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with detention centre management, staff, and other service providers.
  • Exercise specialist skills to support the Custodial Inspector in meeting the objectives of the Custodial Inspector Act 2016.
  • Co-ordinate and schedule inspections, and plan and co-ordinate the development of draft inspection reports.
  • Conduct environmental scanning of youth detention to identify current and future issues, trends, and best practice in custodial services.
  • Undertake research in relation to inspection reports to ensure findings are consistent with best practice.

Requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience interpreting legislation.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Registration.
  • Current Driver's Licence.
