Research Specialist Software Vulnerabilities

Conduct scientific and technical research to analyze operational software for Defence and National Security.

The Role

We are seeking a Research Specialist to carry out cutting-edge research in program analysis, working collaboratively with our team of experts to maintain a world-class capability.

Duties and Key Result Areas:

  • Lead research in program analyses and work with the Discipline Lead Software Systems Security on client engagement, budgeting, S&T planning, and management of deliverables.
  • Develop new software and binary analysis techniques to support Defence, National Security, and Five Eyes partners.
  • Design tools and techniques to accelerate the analysis and reverse engineering of software vulnerabilities.

**Our Team**

Our Cyber & Signals Intelligence team develops concepts, techniques, and technologies for understanding cyberspace and the electromagnetic spectrum, supporting the intelligence and electronic surveillance needs of Defence.

We collaborate with a wide range of research organisations nationally and internationally. Our primary location is at the DST Edinburgh site, with a presence also in Canberra.

**Required Skills and Qualifications**

  • Ability to think conceptually and solve complex problems through sound research and engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of software systems security challenges.
  • Track record of delivering impactful research and client outcomes in program analyses.
